Facilities

The Department of Animal, Veterinary and Food Sciences prides itself on balancing a science-centric curriculum with hands-on learning opportunities. The department’s facilities reflect this approach. Students gain industry-specific experience at our beef, sheep and dairy centers; a meats laboratory; a working ranch; an aquaculture center; foods laboratories; a food technology center and the WSU Creamery. Through coursework and additional skills-building programs, animal science students interact with several types of livestock, all bred for instructional purposes. Food science students gain access to facilities on two leading research campuses.

These dedicated facilities allow our master’s and Ph.D. candidates to focus on research — an essential component of our advanced animal science and food science degree programs.

Because the Department of Animal, Veterinary and Food Sciences acknowledges our role within the greater community and the agricultural and food industries, our facilities help our students prepare for careers and are available for educating industry professionals, consumers and the public.
